Forthcoming models include back-to-basics version "priced to excite"

Caterham plans to launch five new Seven-based models before its new coupé arrives in 2015.

The CSR will receive its first major update since its launch in 2005, but the big news this year will be a 40th anniversary Seven that “will take us back to our roots”, according to commercial chief David Ridley.

There is a feeling at Caterham that the focus falls currently on big ticket cars like the R500 and not enough on the kind of affordable, basic Sevens that built the car’s reputation in the first place. As a result, said Ridley, the stripped-out anniversary model will be “priced to excite”.

Ridley didn’t rule anything out — not even a return to a live rear axle configuration as used by all Sevens until 1984 — and the model could bring back the Sprint name.
