The Geneva motor show marks the start of the motoring year for European motorists. It’s the first big show to give a glimpse of dozens of new models heading for UK roads over the coming months.
And after several years of car makers driving down emissions and fuel consumption, the performance car is back.
Aside from the show-stopping McLaren P1 and Lamborghini Veneno, there’s the long awaited Ferrari Enzo replacement, the LaFerrari. Each offers rarity, massive performance and price tags ranging from £866,000 to more than £2.6m. They are the new breed of performance car poster boys.
Perhaps more importantly, Geneva is playing host to the latest generation of hot hatchbacks. Certainly the Mercedes A45 AMG is the focus of attention, with a barely- believably 335bhp from its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. But the Kia Cee’d and Procee’d GT models are no less important. The 201bhp models might not beat the Merc in a drag race, but with a price tag around £23,000, they are more relevant than ever.
Autocar’s team of journalists and photographers will be capturing the best of the show as it happens, so check back for the latest.
