BMW has announced a 46-strong sales network for its ‘i’ sub-brand range.
The network will be up and running from launch later this year. Initially two BMW i cars have been confirmed for production, the i3 city car and the plug-in hybrid i8 sports car.
The i3 is available to order from July — with a rumoured price tag of £35,000— before arriving in showrooms around October.
The i3 will feature an all-aluminium chassis combined with a passenger cell made entirely from lightweight carbonfibre reinforced plastic. It will be made available in either fully electric or range-extended form.
Meanwhile, the i8 isn’t expected to make an appearance until 2014.
According to BMW, more than 6000 potential customers have already registered their interest in the i brand.
