Plug-in hybrid concept from Seat shown, but no plans for series production
Seat has revealed a new plug-in hybrid prototype, based on the new Leon.
The Leon Verde uses a 120bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and a 101bhp electric motor. Seat claims the car can average 176.6mpg, while its CO2 emissions are rated at 36 g/km of CO2.
It can travel up to 31 miles using electric power only. Its total range, when using both the electric motor and petrol engine, is approximately 507 miles.
Seat says the Centi Verde, which translates as Green Zenith, is the result of a four-year research project designed to bring an electric vehicle to Spain.
A charging system, which can be linked into the electricity grid, has also been developed alongside the car. A 20kw onboard two-way charger will allow the Verde to feed excess charging energy back into the grid.
A smartphone app allows the driver to control functions such as energy consumption, battery status and charging.
Seat says the Leon Verde is a research and development prototype only, and there are no current plans to put the car into series production.
