We're told it happens every year - the first day of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power arrives and the weather descends.
It's grey, overcast and raining here at the famous Castle site, but that hasn't stopped visitors from lining the course. They're all here to see the formation of supercars, hypercars and motorsport legends that will soon be taking to the track.
Highlights include a run of the 254mph Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, plus the chance to see the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, both of which get their UK debuts at the event.
Caterham, Ariel, Radical and BAC will all field cars with the aim of ducking under the 61.89sec lap record, which was set last year in a Caterham SP300R.
But to think of Cholmondeley as an against-the-clock competition would be missing the point. Plenty of the cars – old and new, fast and slow – will be making their way around the 1.2mile course, but there’s more to see than that.
Visitors can get up close to the competing vehicles in the paddock, where both new and classic cars line up beside icons of the two-wheeled world. And there are powerboats and helicopters around the estate, too.
This year’s event will see more than 80 cars and 40 bikes competing on track, and Aston Martin and Lamborghini will be celebrating their 100th and 50th birthdays respectively.
And the Autocar supercar paddock will showcase the latest and greatest performance cars. Models including the Bugatti Veyron, Audi 80 touring car and Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer will feature in possibly the most eclectic exhibition of sports cars, supercars and track cars of the year.
Autocar will report live from the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, so check back for the latest highlights and pictures in our exclusive gallery.
