The Mazda 3 saloon has broken cover in leaked images, one week after the official unveiling of the hatchback version.
Images of the Mazda 3 saloon first leaked on a Russian car website. Although official details are scant, the saloon's exterior styling closely follows the 'Kodo – Soul of Motion' cues laid down by its hatchback sibling, as well as the CX-5 SUV and Mazda 6 saloon before it.
Centred on the bold 'wing' grille, this feature feeds into a rolling belt line that dips and rises before blending into the boot.
It seems likely that the booted version of the Mazda 3 will adopt the Japanese manufacturer’s latest SkyActiv engine, chassis and powertrain technology. Mazda has worked hard to ensure its new C-segment model offers class-leading interior space and clever packaging.
It's already been confirmed that the hatch will come equipped with three petrol engines – a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre in two states of tune – and a 2.2-litre diesel, and the saloon is likely to also feature these powerplants.
It remains to be seen whether the Mazda 3 saloon will go on sale in Britain. Although C-segment small saloons are popular in other territories, they remain a niche choice in the UK and the second-generation 3 is currently not offered as a four-door.
