A 1934 Packard took top honours in one of the world's most exclusive car shows which also revealed the 1100bhp Laraki Epitome concept
Some of the rarest and most expensive cars in the world have descended on a golf course in California. The venue is Pebble Beach, the event is the Concours d’elegance.
This year’s event, the centrepiece of the Pebble Beach show, has seen more than 200 cars compete in 28 classes. More than 100 years separates the oldest and newest models that represented some of the world’s most iconic marques and long-forgotten brands of yesteryear.

A 1934 Packard 1108 Twelve Dietrich Convertible Victoria took overall concours honours. Its owner Joseph Cassini, bought the car three years ago with the intention of showing it at Pebble Beach. Its two-and-a-half year restoration was completed just eight days before the show.
Packard built more than 35,000 Twelves in the 1930s, but this is the only model to feature custom coachwork by Raymond Dietrich.
Among the classic cars were a number of concepts, including the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé – which is likely to evolve into the next 8-series – and the Mercedes Concept GLA.
The Aston Martin DB9 Zagato Centennial appeared fresh from its premiere at Aston’s 100 year celebration event in Kensington Gardens in London.
Other standout models include the Icona Vulcano hybrid supercar, the 1100bhp, Corvette-based Laraki Epitome concept, Touring Superleggera Disco Volante and Lamborghini’s oldest known car, the 350 GTV prototype alongside its Veneno hypercar.
